Tardy Procedures for Extracurricular Activities
Students who are frequently late may lose school privileges such as attending dances as according to policy in our student planner under Extracurricular Activities. Each Friday, if a student reaches three to five tardies, parents and students will receive a warning email letting them know the student is at risk of being placed on the No Privilege List. Once a student reaches six or more tardies, they are placed on the No Privilege List. To regain privileges, the student must attend a Restorative Attendance Workshop and complete a short reflection and planning activity to improve attendance. After attending the workshop, students are removed from the No Privilege List. If a student reaches six tardies again, they will be placed on the No Privilege List again and be required to attend another workshop. Each week, the school updates tardy records and notifies families of changes. Before major events such as dances, students and parents will receive one of three emails: confirmation that privileges have been restored, notification that the student has been newly added to the No Privilege List with a final chance to attend a workshop, or notice that the student remains on the list with one last opportunity to restore privileges. At the beginning of each marking period, all students start at zero tardies. Staying on time to class is the easiest way to remain in good standing and continue enjoying all school activities.
Oceana also understands that there are extenuating circumstances that need to be considered, if this applies to you or your student, please reach out to Vice Principal Jose Campos at jcampos@jeffersonunion.net.
To summarize the process: To stay in good standing, here’s how tardies are handled:
3–5 Tardies:
- Parents and students receive an email warning that the student is close to losing privileges.
6 or More Tardies:
- Student is placed on the No Privilege List.
- To restore privileges, the student must attend a Restorative Attendance Workshop (Wednesdays after school)
Workshops & Privilege Restoration:
- Attendance is tracked each week.
- After attending a workshop, students are removed from the No Privilege List.
- If tardies reach 6 again, another workshop is required.
A week prior to dances, one of three emails will be sent:
- Restored Privileges – Congratulations, you are in good standing!
- Newly Added – You’re now on the No Privilege List; final chance to attend a workshop.
- Still on the List – Last chance to restore privileges by attending a workshop.
